ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Year of Establishment: 01-09-1981. Head of the Department: Prof. Abdul Nayeem Khan.Vision and Aim of the Department: The Department offers an array of core papers like animal diversity, comparative anatomy, embryology, physiology, biochemistry, genetics, evolution, biotechnology and immunology. The aim of the Department is to give the learners a sound understanding of Biosciences with emphasis on understanding the general aspects of animals and their importance. The biggest boon of the Department is its Zoological Museum that displays very rare type of animal specimens and skeletons for comparative study of animals. The Department also facilitates a basic and comprehensive approach towards developing skills in disciplines such as Apiculture, Sericulture, Medical diagnostics and Dairy farming. By adopting the blended teaching learning approach, a major focus is given on the active learning strategies, such as group discussions and subject presentations. The students are taken to field trips and excursions for practical learning outside the confines of the classroom. The faculty also mentor and guide their students in pursuing higher education not only in Zoology but also in programmes including themes in some of the emerging areas of Zoology that are expected to be extremely useful in the present scenario.
